SERENGETI
TANZANIA - AFRICA
The Serengeti is a vast wildlife reserve in northern Tanzania, renowned for its annual migration of over a million wildebeest and zebras. The Ngorongoro Crater, located within the Serengeti, is a large, volcanic caldera home to a diverse array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, rhinos, and hyenas. The area has been inhabited by humans for thousands of years, with evidence of early human settlement dating back to the Olduvai Gorge, located near the crater's rim. The Serengeti was designated as a national park in 1951 and a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1981, while the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which encompasses the crater, was established in 1959. Famous for the iconic "an Umbrella thorn silhouetted" during the setting sun and has been called nature's laboratory. One of the earth's most untouched wild spaces. Peter Matthiessen, American writer and environmental activist quoted, "The Serengeti is an endless plain, a timeless place, where the human is an intruder."
It was in the middle of the night when I and my wife landed in Kilimanjaro airport. After went thru the immigration, we met with our safari guides which took us to the hotel to stay overnight before our Safari trip the next day. I still remember vividly on the way to the hotel, I opened the car window, and believe it or not, I smelled nice fresh night air which unusual to me. Later I found out that is the smell of Africa! Enjoy!
